Free eBook: Building Resilience in Children
A concise, practical guide for parents and caregivers – yours to download free.
Every parent wants to raise a child who can cope with life’s challenges and can face difficulty, recover from setbacks, and grow stronger through them. That capacity has a name: resilience. And the good news is that it isn’t something children are simply born with or without. It’s built, gradually, and the people best placed to build it are the parents and caregivers around them.
This short, accessible book explains how.
In this book, you’ll discover:
- What resilience really is, and why it matters more than shielding children from every difficulty
- The everyday ways parents and caregivers quietly build (or undermine) it
- How to help children face challenges, manage difficult feelings, and bounce back
- Practical, realistic things you can start doing today
Written to be read easily, a concise introduction, not a heavy textbook.
The book is also available on Amazon if you’d prefer a Kindle or print copy.
About the author
I’m Werner van der Westhuizen, a clinical social worker in Gqeberha, and the author of Building Resilience in Children. Over many years of working with children, adolescents and families, including in residential child and youth care, I’ve seen how much difference a resilient foundation makes to a young person’s life. I wrote this book to put what I’ve learned into the hands of the parents and caregivers who matter most.
This book offers general guidance for parents and caregivers. Every child is different – if you have concerns about your child, you’re welcome to reach out.
