The “Who’s Who in the Zoo?” workshop is an online professional development workshop for social workers and social auxiliary workers. This engaging two-session workshop uses animal metaphors to explore workplace personality preferences, communication styles, and team dynamics within the workplace.
Understanding personality differences can help to improve team effectiveness, reduce conflict, prevent burnout and improve client relationships. The use of animals as a metaphor for understanding personality preferences, communication styles and behaviour patterns provides a memorable, fun and culturally universal way for social workers to develop deeper awareness and intentionality in their interactions with others in the workplace, as well as client systems.
Animal metaphors provide:
- Universal Recognition – Animals are universally understood across cultures and languages, making this approach inclusive for South Africa’s diverse workforce.
- Non-Threatening Framework – Animal metaphors remove the stigma often associated with personality assessments, creating a safe space for self-exploration and team discussion.
- Memorable Learning – Visual and metaphorical learning enhances retention and practical application of concepts.
- Playful Engagement – The animal framework introduces an element of fun that increases engagement and reduces resistance to self-reflection.
- Cultural Resonance – Many African cultures have rich traditions of animal symbolism and storytelling, making this approach culturally appropriate and meaningful.
Discover your workplace personality type, leverage your strengths, overcome weaknesses, and master client relations, teamwork and self-management through powerful animal metaphors.
